About Us

Who are we?

Safe Kids Greater Des Moines is a diverse group of individuals who strive to prevent unintentional injuries from occurring to children ages 14 and under. Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death to children in this age group, and we work to keep Greater Des Moines’ children from becoming statistics.

Formed in August of 1994, our coalition is comprised of police departments, hospitals, children’s services, insurance representatives, businesses, and the State Health Department. We come together concerned about children’s safety issues throughout the Des Moines area. We are a member of Safe Kids USA and work with them to carry out programs that reduce unintentional injuries to children age birth through adolescence.

Safe Kids Greater Des Moines is part of Safe Kids USA, the first and only national nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury-the number one killer of children ages 14 and under. Blank Children's Hospital is proud to be the lead organization for Safe Kids Greater Des Moines.

Our Mission Statement:

The mission of Safe Kids Greater Des Moines is to work together to ensure the safety of all children.
